This Riesling Ried Ritter von Pistor from Domaine 1196 comes from one of the most historic vineyard sites in Southern Styria. The vineyard in Kitzeck im Sausal was first mentioned in connection with viticulture as early as 1703, followed by the granting of the noble title “Ritter” in 1784. Today, extremely steep, south-facing terraces at almost 500 metres above sea level define this exceptional site. Distinctive soils of blue slate, phyllite and quartz inclusions give the vineyard its unmistakable character.
The grapes are harvested 100% by hand and then vinified with great care to express the distinctive qualities of this demanding site. The Riesling impresses with an elegant structure, mineral tension and a clear, precise style. Its exceptional origin gives it depth and expression, while its excellent ageing potential makes it an exciting wine for discerning Riesling lovers. A characterful single-vineyard wine that brings together history, craftsmanship and the fascinating slate landscape of the Sausal.

Winery Domaine 1196
Winery Domaine 1196 in Gamlitz combines centuries-old winemaking tradition with modern cellar technology. The name refers to the year 1196, the first documented mention of viticulture in the region, and reflects its deep roots in the Styrian terroir. This is where distinctive wines with a clear signature and strong character are created.
At the historic site of a former vineyard, a state-of-the-art cellar was built, uniting production, storage, and logistics under one roof. With a focus on precision and innovation, the wines are also given the freedom to develop naturally. The project was initiated by Siegfried Wolf and realized together with renowned figures such as Reinhard Muster and Albert Gesellmann. The result is wines defined by elegance and a clear Styrian identity.
