About the Williams Pear Schnapps
For this exquisite Tyrolean Williams Schnapps we only use sun-ripened, hand-picked Williams pears from the Vinschgau region around Tramin in South Tirol, where our fruit farmers grow the classic-yellow cultivar. Full-bodied with a strong-lasting aftertaste, this pear schnapps graciously releases its distinctive and typical Williams aroma!
The Williams Pear - a luscious classic
Williams pears are enjoyed as a dessert fruit and are considered to be a spirits classic among the fruit schnapps beverages.
Their color during harvest time (end of August to beginning of September) varies between light green and lemon-yellow with occasionally a blushing-red cheek on the sun side – this characterises the Williams pear in combination with its delicate, juicy and exceptionally tasty flesh.
The optimal degree of ripeness at harvest time is crucial for the intensive, aromatic taste of the fruit schnapps; also the freshness of the mash contributes markedly towards the quality of the schnapps.
By the way: Pears have long been well-known to human kind
In Persia, the wild pear was used to cultivate the first pears; via Greece and Rome the fruit also entered our environment. 38 types were already known in Ancient Rome and thanks to continuous cultivation the number kept on increasing.
In the 17th century, the French were accustomed to about 300 types, which increased steadily to reach 1000 in the 19th century. Today there are about 5000 sorts of pears known worldwide.
