Spirit
In contrast to schnapps, a spirit is a distilled beverage made from macerates of fruits, roots, or herbs. Natural raw materials that are not suitable for mashing, such as masterwort, hazelnuts, or Swiss stone pine cones are used to create spirits.
To achieve this, the raw materials, often supplied by local farmers, are soaked in alcohol, a process referred to as maceration by experts. Depending on the characteristics of the raw material, this maceration process can last from a few days to several months. The subsequent distillation of the macerate yields the spirit.
