The calendula is a very old ornamental and cultivated plant native in Southern, Central and Eastern Europe. It often grows wild on rubble, along roadsides and in vineyards.
In folk medicine, the yellow flower is mainly used for poorly healing wounds and inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat. It is also said to bring relief from sunburn and chilblains, varicose veins, boils and eczema.
